CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team opens its 2021-22 campaign this coming week at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. They take on a 21-team field at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., a par 72, 7,105-yard tract.
The 5-man lineup includes Connor Nolan, Leon Bader, Matt Smith, Paul Conroy and Braedon Wear. The first four are seasoned veterans on Coach Mark Guhne's squad while Wear takes the tee in his first career collegiate event. It's a group that brings a lot of optimism to the alum heading into his 16th year at the helm.
"There's really good energy in this group," Guhne explained. "Even from guys who didn't qualify, you can see the competitive juices and desire to win. It has me very excited to get going and see where it leads. It's a special fire."
The Mocs tee off Sunday morning in the second team groupings. The quintet is paired with Lamar, Rice and various individuals. Nolan leads off at 9:20 a.m., Eastern time, followed by Bader, Wear, Conroy and Smith. The three-day, 54-hole event tees off Sunday and ends Tuesday with 18 holes per day.
The following week see the Mocs return home to host the Scenic City Collegiate. They bring an impressive array of squads to the hallowed fairways of the Honors Course for a two-day, 54-hole affair on Sept. 20 and 21. Admission is free.

- Last trip to LA Tech was a tie for second in 2006 with an 18-hole weather-shortened runner-up finish. Bryce Ledford was low man in second with 68. Last full event was 2001 ending up third with two top 5s: Toby Geren, 3rd, 222 & Rocky Mankin, 4th, 224.
- The last trip to Louisiana was the 2012 LSU National Invite. Team finished eighth led by Steven Fox's 220 tying for 14th. The Mocs won the next two events - SoCon Championships and NCAA Bowling Green Regionals - led by Stephan Jaeger's individual wins in both.
