ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
CHOUDRANT, La.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team began its 2021-22 campaign with a total of 308 in the first of three rounds at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
Paul Conroy led the way with a level-par 72 at Squire Creek Country Club.
The sophomore from Ireland carded five birdies on the day. That's one shy of his career-high six at the Sea Palms Invitational last spring. Conroy fought back from a tough start bogeying two of the first three holes to reel off those five red numbers over the next 12 holes before coming in at even.
His 72 was followed by
Connor Nolan's 76.
Braedon Wear added 78 with
Leon Bader and
Matt Smith both turning in 82. The 308 is two behind Central Arkansas at 306.
Houston is the early leader at 284, one ahead of Little Rock, LSU and Southern Miss. Kevin Lee from Lamar is atop the player leaderboard with 5-under 67.
The Mocs return to the tee Monday. They're paired with Central Arkansas and the tournament's collection of individuals. Follow along on Golfstat's live scoring at the link above. Bader begins at 8:30 a.m., Eastern time, followed by Smith, Wear, Noland and Conroy.
The following week see the Mocs return home to host the Scenic City Collegiate. They bring an impressive array of squads to the hallowed fairways of the Honors Course for a two-day, 54-hole affair on Sept. 20 and 21. Admission is free.
