CHOUDRANT, La.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team looked for a little redemption after a rough start on Sunday. The group improved 14 strokes with 294 over the second 18 at Squire Creek Country Club. They were led by sophomore Paul Conroy and freshman Braedon Wear each carding 1-under par 71s.

Wear's red number is the first of his collegiate career. He turned in four birdies with just one real glitch. Each birdie came on the par 5s which the Mocs shot 9 under on the long holes which was 17 shots better than 5 over yesterday.

Conroy overcame a slow start much like his team. He was 2 over through eight before rattling off birdies on nine, 10 and 11. He stubbed his toe with a double on 14 only to finish strong with birdies at 17 and 18 for his 1 under total.

The trio of Matt Smith, Leon Bader and Connor Nolan tallied 76s to share the final counting/drop scores. That closed out the 294 which propelled Chattanooga past Central Arkansas into a tie for 18th with Rice at 602. The duo is seven behind Western Kentucky in 17th.

Conroy's two-day total of 143. His 1 under number is tied for 18th overall in the 119-player field. Wear is next on the squad at 149 ahead of Nolan's 152. Bader and Smith both sit at 158.

UTSA is the team leader with 562. Host LA Tech is second with 565. Tech's Sam Murphy is the individual leader at 8-under 136. The final round starts Tuesday morning. The Mocs are paired with Abilene Christian, Western Kentucky and the tournament's collection of individuals. Follow along on Golfstat's live scoring at the link above.

The following week see the Mocs return home to host the Scenic City Collegiate. They bring an impressive array of squads to the hallowed fairways of the Honors Course for a two-day, 54-hole affair on Sept. 20 and 21. Admission is free.
