Game 22 at The Citadel – Jan. 29 – McAlister Field House
Postgame QuotesÂ
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Overall thoughts after 75-62 win at The Citadel.
"It's a good conference win for us, all of them on the road are. I don't think we played great at times, it took us a while. I thought our shot selection wasn't the greatest early on and that's the first time this season I had to mention that in a timeout. They're a pesky bunch and come back at any time. I challenged the team that we can play better, but at the same time I'm acknowledging that we went on the road and beat a talented team. I'm happy about that, but we have to hold ourselves to a higher standard with the product we want to put out."
Â
On the play from Avery Diggs & Josh Ayeni
"It's huge. I said this before and I stick by it, either, and, or both of those guys are starters. Josh started for us last year and Avery is a starting center. They have been great about the role they are in and attacking that position by committee with all three of those guys. I feel extremely confident with those guys going in. I thought they were really good. Josh has been very effectively on the defensive end the last couple games. We threw it to Avery late in the game to get baskets and that's what he does. It's a severe drop on our team if we don't have that."
Â
On if this team is close to reaching its full potential.
"It's a funny answer. It's really close, really close, but it's hard to get to where we need to get to. That last yard is so hard to get. You're close to your goal, but it's so hard to get there. You have to do some extra things. With what happens to most people and groups, this is good enough. It's easy to say that. I'm asking these guys to do a little more to go just a little bit further. I do think we're close."

Avery Diggs, Gr.-F
On improving to 18-4 overall and 8-1 in SoCon.
"I'll take that. That's a big deal and hopefully we can keep it going. We don't want to lose anymore. I feel like we took care of business down the stretch. We knew they can come back at any time. We find ways to win and we want to keep doing that."
Â
On the offensive performance today.
"I do well on the offensive end and that's where I'm comfortable and that's my specialty. I have to do a little bit better job on the defensive end."
Â
On defense turning into offense.
"It all starts on the defensive end and we held them to some tough shots. They had some open looks but overall, I thought we forced them into some tough shots. Our defense usually turns into open looks for us on the offensive end."
