CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs will host the Chattanooga Cross Country Invitational Friday morning at Camp Jordan. The women's 5-kilometer race will start at 9:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8K.
Â
"We are excited to host our home meet again," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "It's been a couple of years, but we are glad to get it back on the calendar."
Â
The Mocs will host Tennessee Tech and Bryan College along with several local and unattached college runners.
Â
"Both Tennessee Tech and Bryan have excellent teams and are well coached and run very disciplined races," Meyer said. "We will certainly have our hands full with both squads.
Â
"The course is a fairly flat 2-kilometer loop," Meyer said. "The guys will do four times and the women twice plus another mini-loop in the starting field to finish. It's 99 percent on grass and very, very spectator friendly."
Â
Fifth-year seniors Jonathan Boyd and Ryan Phillips will run in their final home meet this week. Ashtyn Hagood and Faith Brown will also wrap up their cross country careers at home.
Â
"These four have been great kids us," Meyer said. "They do everything we ask. They have great grades and compete hard. They are great team leaders. Above all they are just unbelievable young men and women. We could not ask for better student-athletes to represent UTC!
Â
"You have kids come into the program and make everything and everyone better. That's what all four of these kids have done and will be greatly missed."
Â
The forecast for Friday morning is sunshine with cool temperatures.
Â
Â
Quotables – Andy Meyer, Mocs head coach
"The city of East Ridge and Camp Jordan have been very gracious to allow us to run out there. They have done an outstanding job preparing the course for us. FastBreak Athletics will be handling the finish line for us, and Chattanooga Track Club will be doing the timing for us. I really appreciate the community support for our home meet. We certainly could not do this without there help and generosity."
