Conroy Earns Southern Conference Honor

Paul Conroy led the Chattanooga Mocs to the win at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate earning Southern Conference Golfer of the Week along the way.

CHATTANOOGA---It was a day unlike any other. The Chattanooga Mocs were three shots out of the lead with 18 holes to play with John Houk and Samiel Espinosa lurking in the top 10. Then, history stepped in.
Junior Paul Conroy came back from an 8-shot deficit to lead the Mocs to a 9-stroke win while claiming a 2-shot win for himself. All by virtue of a 10-under 62.
It had a hole-in-one which followed an eagle. Six birdies tossed in there with 10 more pars. He was eight under through 15 before back-to-back birdies proved to be tournament winners. His 62 tied the school record first set by Fredrik Qvicker in the final round of the 2008 Aldila Scenic City Invitational.
"Really happy for Paul getting SoCon Golfer of the Week after his win," Coach Blaine Woodruff shared from qualifying event. "The last couple of weeks, he's been a little frustrated feeling like he wasn't getting everything out of his game. He stayed patient and trusted the result would take care of itself. And it did!"
Conroy is 7 under for the season. Six of his nine cards are par or better with Sunday's 62 being the first in the 60s and putting the exclamation point in Woodruff's quote.
It's the first Golfer of the Week award for Conroy and by a Moc in 2022-23. The last was Braedon Wear on Sept. 29, 2021 after last season's win for the then freshman at the J.T. Poston Invitational.
The Mocs return to action Saturday at the Furman Intercollegiate. The 2-day, 54-hole event is played at Furman Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. Conroy, Espinosa and Houk are in the lineup with a trio of golfers qualifying today for two spots in Wear, Carson Johnson and Garrett Engle.
