Volleyball’s Win Streak Snapped in 3-0 Loss at Furman

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team saw its five-match win streak snapped on the road in Greenville.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team saw its five-match win streak snapped during a 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-17) loss on the road at Furman on Saturday evening inside Alley Gym in Greenville, South Carolina.

Following the loss, Chattanooga falls to 6-4 in SoCon play and 12-13 overall. Furman improves to 6-15 overall and 2-9 inside league action.

"Frustrating loss. We have worked so hard to be better every day," said head coach Julie Torbett. "Furman had a great game plan and executed it well. We did not have a response.

"It was a true statement that we have beat the number one team and lost to the last place team. Anyone can win in this league in one weekend."

Chattanooga struggled out of the gate as the squad attacked at just a .104 clip in the opening set while committing seven errors on 48 swings and eventually dropped a 25-20 decision. UTC responded in the second set and held a 23-19 lead before allowing an 8-2 run to the Paladins in route to a 27-25 loss. Furman closed out the match with a convincing 25-17 win in the third.

Natalie Tyson led the offensive attack for Chattanooga after finishing with a team-high 13 kills. Halle Olson followed with seven kills as UTC struggled as a whole offensively, finishing the match with an .095 attacking percentage. The Mocs trailed in the kill column to Furman by a 45-36 count.

Olson led the team with 16 digs while Paige Gallentine (12) and Sophia Bossong (10) each reached the double-digit platform to aid the defense. Tyson nearly missed a double-double performance after ending the match with nine digs. UTC was out-blocked 8.0-7.0 tally as Sydney Hall paced the visitors with four total blocks (two solo, two assists).
