2) Details
What to expect Saturday? First mistake in college sports is placing expectations on any contest. HOWEVER, looking at the stats you have a couple of similar teams. Both want to run the ball well and the Paladins do, leading the league at nearly 230 yards per game. Chattanooga is fifth at 175.0 ypg.

Both limit the other team scoring with the Mocs D giving up just 16.4 points per game at the top of the SoCon, while Furman is second (19.4). They do it different ways with Chattanooga limiting yardage (more on that below), and the Paladins coming in with sticky fingers with a FCS-leading 19 takeaways (7 fumbles/12 interceptions) which ranks third in all of DI football.

3) History
52nd meeting in the series that dates back to 1928. Only six of the meetings came before the Mocs joined the Paladins in the Southern Conference. Furman leads the series 30-21 by virtue of an impressive 22-season run (1988-2009) winning 20 of 22. In the other 29 meetings, Chattanooga has a 19-10 mark including seven of the last 10. The two squads are an even 12-12 in Greenville.

4) Anti-Driving
The Mocs defense has been stout this season. Opponents are scoring on 17.9 percent of their drives that start via kickoff (15.0%) or punt (22.2%). That's 79 points over seven games (11.3 ppg).

Chattanooga scores in 35.8 percent of their possessions obtained by kickoff (37.0%) or punt (35.0%). 147 of the Mocs 202 points have been scored starting the possession from opponent's kickoffs and punts.

5) 3 Notes to Know
  • 6-1 is the best overall start since 6-1 in 2016. 6 or more wins through seven games for the 12th time in program history: 2016 (8-1), 2015 (7-1), 1997 (6-1), 1979 (6-1), 1978 (6-0-1), 1977 (8-1), 1968 (7-0), 1931 (9-1), 1928 (6-1), 1927 (8-1) & 1905 (6-1). A win marks the seventh time with seven wins in first eight games.
  • QB Preston Hutchinson topped 4,000 yards for his career last Saturday. It came on a 20-yard completion to Sam Phillips on the first play of the second quarter. He now has 4,194 yards including his time at Eastern Michigan.
  • Third in the nation (1st SoCon) in total penalties (27) and per game (3.86). Richmond, led by former Moc Russ Huesman, is first in both (23/3.29).
