TULSA, Okla. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team and its five representatives continued play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in the prequalifying consolation rounds on Sunday at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Simon Labbe and
Kerim Hyatt both earned victories in the prequalifying consolation round. Labbe posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory over SMU's Callaway Clark while Hyatt earned a smooth 6-0, 6-2 decision over SMU's Blaine Hovenier.
"Kerim and Simon looked focused and strong, and took care of business in their matches," said head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "Lot of good play to build on for everyone, there was strong competition."
The trio of
Peyton Gatti, Kristof Kinsces and
Gabriel Castillo all suffered hard-fought defeats in the prequalifying consolation round of 128. Gatti fell 7-5, 6-2 to Illinois State's Nam Pham while Kincses dropped a 6-1, 7-5 match to Wofford's Callum Rendle and Castillo a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Texas-Arlington's Bautista Vilicich.
