CHATTANOOGA---The 9th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs had a pretty busy off week. There was news of sweeping
Tennessee Sports Writers weekly honors along with a
SoCon Player of the Month. It ends with the invitation to the Hula Bowl for the senior pair of
McClendon Curtis and
Devonnsha Maxwell.
Â
The pair anchor the offensive and defensive lines for the Mocs. Curtis, a 4-year starter at right guard, has seen work at his normal position as well as out at left tackle managing to excel at both. Maxwell is a force on the Mocs interior at defensive tackle. The focus on him by offensive lines has resulted in four different Mocs recording multiple sacks through five games.
Â
The microscope the pair is under is intense. They're not alone as several Mocs are eyed from seniors to underclassmen, but almost every set of NFL eyes have been on them dating back to last season when first round pick
Cole Strange was the headliner.
Â
If you follow @GoMocsFB on Twitter, you see the NFL visits announced on a regular basis. Nearly every team has already visited the Scenic City to watch practice, view game tape and visit Curtis, Maxwell and others. Thirty-one of the 32 NFL teams last year came to campus on a regular basis.
Â
Strange is the last Moc to play in one of the postseason all-star weeks. He was in the Reese's Senior Bowl which has this year's
dynamic duo under close scrutiny. The Shrine Bowl is also keeping close tabs with Curtis on its watch list. Defensive tackle Kolu Fainuulelei (1998) is the lone Moc to play in the Hula Bowl.
