Postgame Quotes

Lamont Paris, Head Coach

Overall thoughts after win at Furman.
"How about that? How about that for a college basketball game? Seriously. To whoever got to watch it, and for the people who paid to be here and watch that? They got every penny out of that. I can't say enough about our guys. Grind, grind, grind, things aren't happening, and just sticking to it and keeping your head where it needs to be. They were physical with us defensively and it took us time to settle in to that. We got more aggressive and loosened things up, opened the floor more. I just can't say enough about that performance."

On the team sticking to it.
"I've seen enough games now, I get momentum is important and all that, but when you're running in mud like we were today, it's just a number. It's going to be manageable if you can keep it close. We made two baskets and then it was nothing. I can't say enough about their mentality and their ability to work. We had some guys who made some plays down the stretch. It was a physical game."

On the difference between a young team opposed to a veteran team like UTC. .
"They don't play in a fashion that allows them to win. They're going to try to get a 10-point shot or play hero ball. We didn't do any of that. Our shot quality got better, as we played worse, the shot quality got better. Six can turn into 15 so quickly. In no way does being down six means you should lose the game. You can't play into the hands of the other team. We didn't do any of that. That's what made our effort even better."

Darius Banks, Sr.-F
On the big 64-58 road win at Furman.
"Many of times. It was a bigger statement that had to be made today. That was the first time this season for that. We like our chances, we played our butts off in that second half. We stayed in it and played through adversity. We got our stops and got our scores."

On the toughness of Furman.
"They're a great team. It's always a big matchup when we play them. Props to those guys, they're a really good team. We had to stick to it no matter what. We knew we could get stops on defense, we just had to keep shooting until they fall on offense."

On shooting through the struggles.
"When you've been doing it all season, you have to just keep shooting. I believe in momentum. It's like the ocean once they start falling. It's never going to be easy, especially against those guys. It came down to the wire."
