Softball Hosts Chattanooga Challenge This Weekend

This year’s Chattanooga Challenge features seven teams, 18 games

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Mocs' softball team will host the first of three tournaments this weekend, Feb. 18-20, with the Chattanooga Challenge. The weekend features the Mocs and six visiting teams: Indiana State, Purdue Fort Wayne, SIUE, Radford, Tennessee Tech and Northwestern State.
The Mocs' home opener is Friday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. vs. SIUE. UTC rounds out day one of the tournament with a rematch vs. Northwestern State at 5:30.

Tournament passes are available for purchase for $25 (BUY TOURNAMENT PASS). Season tickets to all 30 of Chattanooga's home games are still available as well (BUY SEASON TICKETS).

POSTGAME AUTOGRAPHS
After every home game this season, select student-athletes will be available for postgame autographs behind the Chattanooga dugout. This weekend, they will be available after the team's second game of each day.

CHATTANOOGA NOTES | FULL
RECAPPING OPENING WEEKEND
The Mocs opened the season 1-3 at the Natchitoches Lady Demon Classic last weekend. After opening the season with three straight losses against UT Martin (7-1), Northwestern State (1-0) and Baylor (10-5), UTC secured its first victory of the 2022 campaign in dominant fashion, 17-0 over Arkansas Pine Bluff. The team ended the weekend with a 4.08 ERA and 14 strikeouts in the circle. Offensively, the Mocs are hitting .257 with three home runs, a triple and seven doubles. On the base path, the squad is 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts, while opponents are 7-7.

BROOKE PARROTT'S SUCCESS
Junior Brooke Parrott tossed 10.1 innings last weekend, held a 1-1 record and allowed just three hits and one run. Her 0.66 ERA leads all Southern Conference pitchers. She is the only pitcher in the league that has allowed just three hits. Parrott's 11 strikeouts are tied for 4th.
 
OLIVIA LIPARI'S DEBUT
Florida native and freshman outfielder Olivia Lipari hit .333 and leads the team with a .429 on base percentage.  In 14 plate appearances, she had two singles, two walks, a double and a triple. Lipari drove in four runs and scored twice. She is currently sixth in the league in slugging.

UTC VS. NORTHWESTERN STATE
Chattanooga and Northwestern State have faced 11 times in the history of the programs, but only three times since 2001. The Mocs are 2-1 in those contests, 2-0 at home and 0-1 at a neutral site. Prior to 2001, the Demons and the Mocs faced each other six times in 1999 and twice in 2000. UTC won all eight of those meetings.

vs. SIUE – Series tied 1-1. Last met Feb. 22, 2020, SIUE won 5-2.
vs. Northwestern State – UTC leads 10-2. Last met Feb. 11, 2022, NSU won 1-0.
vs. Radford – UTC leads 2-0. Last met Feb. 17, 2017, UTC won 10-3.
vs. Tennessee Tech – UTC leads 16-10. Last met March 24, 2021, TTU won 7-0.
vs. Purdue Fort Wayne – PFW leads 1-0. Last met Feb. 21, 2016, PFW won 7-5.
