CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team gets set to open Southern Conference action against The Citadel on Friday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
 
Chattanooga enters the match riding momentum after picking up a thrilling 4-3 win over Lipscomb last Sunday on its home courts. The Mocs improved their spring season record to 2-6 following the victory over the in-state foe.
 
"We've been working hard and playing a tough schedule to get ready for SoCon play," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher. "Every match in this conference is hard fought and we are expecting The Citadel to be no different."
 
In addition to the win over Lipscomb on Sunday, Kerim Hyatt was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week following a 3-1 week. Hyatt earned a pair of singles victories over Kennesaw State and Lipscomb with the latter clinching the 4-3 decision for UTC.
 
The Citadel heads into Friday's conference opener carrying a 2-8 overall record this spring. Chattanooga is a combined 35-5 against the Bulldogs since their first meeting in 1978 which includes a 7-0 victory last spring.
