2021-22 Chattanooga Mocs Women's Basketball
Game 26 – vs. Western Carolina– Feb. 9 – McKenzie Arena
Postgame QuotesÂ
Head Coach Lamont Paris:
Opening statement
"I look at it again and see what it looks like, but I felt like we generated some high-quality shots in the first half and there were a bunch that just didn't go in. David Jean-Baptiste and Josh Ayeni had a good first half. You hold a team to 17 points, you'd like to go into halftime with a bigger cushion, we just weren't making shots. We came through did our thing and the shots went in. Good win, good conference win. We got a good effort from Western Carolina and I thought the guys matched it.
On the physicality of the game.
"I thought the officials did a good job. I have been around this league long enough and normally there are some calls that normally go one way, but there were some really good calls. Â It was a physical game and our job did a good job of holding our ground."
On how to stay positive when the shots weren't falling in the first half.
"I kept looking down at the end of the bench to see if
Eddie Shannon was available, he doesn't miss too many. If the shots aren't going in from the perimeter, you have to stay confident. Western was also playing in a way to try to keep the ball out of the post. At some point, you are going to have to make some of those shots. When you make a couple, it loosens up some other stuff and we were able to get the ball inside."
On DJB making three straight after first half team struggles.Â
"It's a funny game. They say in the NBA, it's a make or miss league. It's a make or miss league sometimes. I look at those shots in the first half, and it's shots we make most of the time. I said at halftime, "Just relax and do your thing." I joked around in the second half because you have to make light about the situation when good guys are making shots that they know they can make."
On Furman matchup on SaturdayÂ
"It'll be a big game. I'm not going to pretend that the factors aren't there. If we go there and win, obviously we put ourselves in a phenomenal situation. They know if they win it, it's a one game deal. I think it's a big game that way. For us, we try to prepare the same. I am not going to play
Eye of the Tiger because it's that. We are going to prepare the same way… look at the game here. They are a different team, we are a different team. I'm sure it'll be a packed house. It's one game but it'll seem like a lot more. It'll feel like an NCAA Tournament situation."
Â
Darius Banks - F., Sr.
On the team's mindset playing WCU tonight after the loss in Cullowhee.
"It was a bad taste in our mouth after we left that place. We wanted revenge and show that our effort is a lot better than it was."
On the first half defensive success.
"That's what we have been trying to do from day one. You see it happen on the court in a game and you just pat yourself on the back."
Grant Ledford - G/F, So.
On what led to the success today.
"We knew we needed to be locked in defense. We knew what we were capable of against them and that's what we tried to do today."
