Men’s Tennis to Host Nationally Ranked VCU on Friday, Georgia State on Sunday

CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team returns to action this weekend with a pair of non-conference home matches at the UTC Tennis Complex as they will host nationally-ranked VCU on Friday at 2 p.m. ET and Georgia State on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Chattanooga enters the weekend with a 3-9 overall record and a 1-0 mark in SoCon play. The Mocs are looking to snap a three-match skid following its 7-0 win over The Citadel back on February 25. They'll have to do so against quality competition.

"This will be one of the strongest opponents [VCU] we've hosted in recent history at No. 42 in the country," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher.

"They have three players nationally ranked in the lineup and they've had some good nationally-ranked team wins over Auburn and Arizona. I know the team is looking forward to this march and competing against a high ranked opponent."

VCU comes in at No. 42 in the latest ITA Division I Men's Tennis Rankings with a record of 8-6 after most recently defeating No. 19 Arizona 4-2. The Rams have played three-straight ranked opponents, falling to No. 29 Princeton 4-1 on February 26 and defeating No. 25 Auburn 4-3 back on February 25.

Georgia State enters the weekend with a 7-6 overall mark this season and most recently suffered a tight 4-3 loss to Liberty on Sunday. The Panthers have competed against two SoCon foes this season, splitting 1-1, after defeating Wofford 5-2 on January 23 and falling to Furman 4-3 on February 13.

Live stats will be available for both matches and can be found on the schedule page. For all updates and match information, stick to GoMocs.com.
