ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
BOULDER CITY, Nev.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team finished second in the Jackrabbit Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The squad shot 290 over the final 18 holes as a trio Mocs ended up in the top 10.
It was an absolute duel with Texas State. Chattanooga was the 36-hole leader by three over the Bobcats and the two put red numbers up all over the scorecards. A little more than halfway through the round, TSU took the lead.
Their four counters were 14 under with the Mocs at 10 under and down one. The final four to seven holes took the bite out of the Scenic City's five which finished the 54 holes at 870.
"Despite not getting the win, we saw a lot of good things today," Interim Head Coach
Miles Moseley explained. "We got to 10 under for the round, but we couldn't close it out. Texas State had a tremendous day and should be congratulated on a great victory.
"We showed just how much potential this team has."
Braedon Wear's 5-under 67 led the Mocs by one over
Connor Nolan's 68.
Alex Cobb added 76 as
Paul Conroy and
Carson Johnson shared the final counting tally of 79.
Wear shot up into the top 5 tying for fourth with 3-under 213. Conroy and Nolan tied for sixth at level-par 216. It's Wear's fourth under-par total in six starts and second top five. Conroy's even ending keeps him at 2 under over 18 cards as he chases history to register the Mocs fourth under-par season all-time.
Texas State ended at 4-under 860. Host South Dakota State was third with 874. A trio of golfers – Willis Gaer (Eastern Ky.), Griffin Parker (Northern Iowa) and Ty Kretz (South Dakota St.) – tied for medalist at 4 under, one ahead of Wear and the Bobcats' Fabian Sunden.
Chattanooga is back to the tee in eight days tackling the Linger Longer Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event is played March 20-22 at Great Waters Course in Eatonton, Ga.
