ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
EATONTON, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is tied for 11th with Virginia after 18 holes of the Linger Longer Invitational. The Mocs and Cavaliers both shot 13-over 301 and sit three strokes out of the top 10 at Reynolds Lake Oconee's Great Waters Course.
Braedon Wear led the way with a 1-under 71. He had three birdies and 14 pars with a lone blip coming with a double bogey on the par four ninth. Those three birdies were nearly half of the team's seven total on the counting cards.
The Mocs were even through six holes before a stretch of tough holes derailed the promising start.
"We got off to a pretty good start this morning, but we didn't execute very well on a difficult back nine," interim head coach
Miles Moseley shared. "A good round tomorrow would go a long way (for us). We just need to finish off rounds better.
"Braedon played well again and is only a few shots off the lead."
He's in 12th at present, four shots ahead of teammates
Paul Conroy and
Parker Highsmith with 75s. Highsmith took
Alex Cobb's place in the lineup.
Connor Nolan completed the team score with 80, while
Matt Smith's 81 served as the drop score.
Vanderbilt has a narrow lead over Georgia atop the leaderboard. The Commodores shot 279, one better than the Bulldogs' 280. A quartet of golfers lead the event at 5-under 67 including BJ Botha (Toledo), Ben Van Wyk (Georgia), Fred Biondi (Florida) and Jacob Bridgeman (Clemson).
Live scoring and pairings are linked above along with the detailed results package. The Mocs start their second round at 8:30 a.m., on the 10th hole playing with UVa and UNCG. Smith leads off followed by Nolan (8:39), Highsmith (8:48), Conroy (8:57) and Wear (9:06).
