CHATTANOOGA – Chattanooga's Beach Volleyball team split two 4-1 decisions on Friday, defeating Morehead State before dropping an evening match to UT Martin.
 
The Mocs moved to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference after the two matches.
 
Chattanooga began with a 2-0 lead after the Mocs' fourth and fifth pairs won 2-0 and 2-1. Victoria Cerino and Madi Morris at No. 4 defeated their opponent 21-19 in both sets. Joy Courtright and Kaye Gresham put together a three-set victory (20-22, 21-12, 15-11).
 
The Mocs got two wins at the top two spots with Gylian Finch and Baylee Young winning in three sets, 21-18, 20-22, 23-21. Neva Clark and Paige Gallentine swept their third straight match, winning 21-17, 22-20.
 
The second match, against UT Martin, began with the Skyhawks sweeping at No. 4 before Courtright and Gresham put together a strong 23-21, 26-24 straight-set win at No. 5. The visitors took a 2-1 lead with a three-set 21-14, 17-21, 15-9 win at the top spot to bring them within one point of securing the dual.
 
The second and third pairs both went to a third set with the Skyhawks needing to win just one to decide the match. UT Martin won at No. 3, 15-11 in the fifth to seal the match and secured the 4-1 win with a 15-12 victory at No. 2.  
 
Chattanooga is back at the UTC Sports Complex tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. against Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois.
