CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team posted a crucial 6-1 victory over UNCG in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center.
Following the win, Chattanooga ends the regular season with a 7-15 overall record and a 4-3 tally inside SoCon play. The Mocs will claim the No. 4 seed in next week's SoCon Tournament held at the Champions Club in Chattanooga. UNCG finishes 6-15 and 3-4 in league play.
"This was an important match for us, setting up the best seeding possible for next week's SoCon Tournament," said head coach
Chuck Merzbacher.
"I thought everyone competed very well today in doubles and singles with no letting up at all. Definitely a full team win across the board."
Chattanooga earned the doubles point after sweeping all three matches with the duo of
Simon Labbe and
Jordan McClure clinching at the No. 3 spot by a 7-6 tie-breaking decision.
In singles play, UTC saw victories in the top three spots coming from
Tomas Rodriguez,
Kerim Hyatt and Labbe, respectively. McClure and
Ryan Mudre each collected wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, to aid the team's winning efforts.
The fourth-seeded Chattanooga Mocs will face No. 5 Wofford in the opening round of the SoCon Tournament on Thursday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. ET at the Champions Club. More information will be available leading up to first serve.
