CHATTANOOGA – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Director of Volleyball, Julie Torbett, announced the 2022 indoor volleyball slate on Thursday morning.
"I am happy with the overall strength of our schedule," said Torbett. "I feel the non-conference segment will prepare us for the challenges we will face throughout the season, but it will also allow us some early success to build our confidence and gain momentum leading into league play. Even though I am new to Chattanooga and the Southern Conference, I feel I know these programs very well and I am excited to see what our team can do this season."
The regular season kicks off August 26 and 27 with the Classic City Clash in Athens, Ga., hosted by the University of Georgia. The Mocs will face Santa Clara, Georgia and Troy.
Chattanooga will start September in the Sunshine State at the Jacksonville Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville University, where the team will play Jacksonville, Presbyterian and Georgia State on Sept. 2 and 3.
The Mocs' home opener is set for Sept. 9 as the Blue and Gold host Duquesne at 10 a.m. to begin the Chattanooga Classic. Southern Indiana and Miami-Ohio will join the Mocs and the Dukes in Maclellan Gym for the home tournament. Following the Chattanooga Classic, UTC will host UNC Asheville on Sept. 14.
The final preseason tournament is set for Sept. 16 and 17 at Georgia Southern. St. Francis and Queens will join the Mocs and the Eagles at the GATA Challenge.
Southern Conference competition starts the following week as the Mocs welcome Furman and Wofford to Maclellan Gym on Sept. 23 and 24.
After four straight away matches, the Mocs return home on Oct. 14 and 16 to face The Citadel and Alabama A&M. Chattanooga concludes its home SoCon slate with five straight matches: Samford (Oct. 28), Mercer (Oct. 29), UNCG (Nov. 4), Western Carolina (Nov. 5) and ETSU (Nov. 9).
The SoCon Tournament is slated for Nov. 18-20 and will take place in Greenville, S.C. hosted by Furman University.
Prior to the season opener, the Mocs will host Kennesaw State in an exhibition on August 17 at 6 p.m. and will play a Blue and Gold intrasquad scrimmage on August 23 at 6 p.m. Both matches are open to the public.
