CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team got the season started but the field at the Streamsong Invitational could not complete the 36-hole day. The Mocs opened with a 1-under 287 and were 11 under through 14-15 holes when darkness declared victory.
 
John Houk got his UTC career off to a strong start with a 4-under 68. Fellow transfer Samuel Espinosa added 2-under 70 with a level-par 72 for Braedon Wear. Paul Conroy finished the team score with 77 as Alex Cobb dropped a 79. Garrett Engle also shot 68 playing as an individual.
 
Houk came back strong in the afternoon. He was 4 under through 14 holes before the break. Espinosa was right on his heels at 3 under with 2 under scores for Wear and Cobb. Conroy is one behind at 1 under as the team sits at 11 under with 3-4 holes to go in the morning. Engle was level for his second 15 holes.

"I'm really proud of how our guys fought back and competed after a sluggish start," Coach Blaine Woodruff shared. "We have one of the best rounds going in round two and about 21 holes remaining tomorrow. Looking forward to the opportunity to finish round two strong and carry momentum in the final round and make a push."
 
The Mocs were tied for ninth after 18 and are alone in that position with a few holes left before a final 18 Tuesday. Virginia (-38) holds a 6-stroke lead over Jacksonville (-32) in second. The Cavs Ben James is the leader at 15 under.
