TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision in its season opener on the road at SEC-member Alabama on Sunday evening in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Following the loss, Chattanooga moves to 0-1 on the season. Alabama improves to a perfect 3-0 on the young spring campaign.
The Mocs dropped the doubles point and fell behind 1-0 after a couple of hard-fought matches favored the Crimson Tide. In singles action, UTC battled to third sets in three of the six matches to remain steady with the hosts.
Kerim Hyatt dropped a 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 match in the No. 1 slot to Alabama's Filip Planinsek while No. 4
Peyton Gatti battled in a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 loss to Matias De Leon.
Ryan Mudre fought his way to a third set in the No. 5 matchup, but ultimately fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 yo German Samofalov.
Chattanooga (0-1) will open its home schedule with a non-conference tilt against Gardner-Webb on Saturday, January 28. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET at a UTC facility announced closer to first serve.
