ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
KNOXVILLE---The Chattanooga Mocs shot 3-over 287 over the final 18 holes at Cherokee Country Club to move up on the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate final leaderboard. The ladies ended up in 11th by four shots over Wisconsin. Kansas was another stroke back with ETSU a distant 14th at 905.
The charge was led by sophomore
Kera Healey and freshman
Giulia Foresta. The duo carded level-par 71s which was one better than
Violeta Fernandez-Tagle's 72 and another shot clear of
Makenzie Cooper's 73.
Nieves Martin turned in the drop score of 78, while
Carmen Belmonte turned in a 76 playing as an individual.
"Really pleased with how the girls fought to the end," Coach
Colette Murray shared. "We never gave up and were able to climb a few spots. We have one event left and want to finish the fall semester strong!"
Cooper was the 54-hole leader again this week. She shot 217 bettering Fernandez-Tagle by two. Foresta shot 222 followed by Healey (231) and Martin (232). Belmonte fit in the middle with 227.
UCF claimed the win by 12 shots over Ole Miss in second. Pepperdine and Maryland tied for third, 17 strokes off the pace. Molly Smith of UCF was the wire-to-wire winner coming in with 201 (-12).
Chattanooga plays its final fall tournament in two weeks at the Brickyard Intercollegiate. Mercer hosts the event Oct. 30-31 at Brickyard Golf Club in Macon, Ga.
