ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
CHATTANOOGA---The 21st-ranked Chattanooga Mocs take to the tee for the final time in the fall semester this weekend at the Steelwood Collegiate. The Mocs headline a strong, 14-team field at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.
It's the first entry in this particular event, although the Mocs have a long history of outings hosted by South Alabama in the Mobile area. It's also another opportunity on a big stage for the squad that is 40-1 through three event.
There are a lot of names in the field alongside the top 25 lads from the Scenic City: Alabama, Indiana, Kansas State, Kentucky, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and West Virginia from the "power" conferences along with UAB, Kennesaw State, LA Tech, Memphis, Rice and South Alabama.
Chattanooga is 13-0 against the names so far in 2023-24:
- ACC: 2-0
- Big 12: 4-0
- Big Ten: 4-0
- Pac 12: 1-0
- SEC: 2-0
The Mocs are led into the event by seniors
Paul Conroy,
Samuel Espinosa and
John Houk who finished 1-2-3 earlier this week at the Furman Intercollegiate. Their top 10 finishes exempted them from the 1-day qualifier for this weekend which saw
Dalton Chuba and
Ward Harris claim the other two starting positions.
The 2-day, 54-hole event opens Saturday with an 9:30 a.m., Eastern time, shotgun start playing 36 holes. Sunday's final round is based on Saturday results. Scoring and pairings are linked above when available.
