ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
LOXLEY, Ala.---The 21st-ranked Chattanooga Mocs finished runner-up at the Steelwood Collegiate. Senior
John Houk echoed that on the individual leaderboard.
The Mocs shot their third straight 1-under 287 to finish the 54 holes at 3-under 861. Freshman
Ward Harris led the way with a 2-under 70 which was one better than
Paul Conroy's 71. Houk was level at 72, while
Dalton Chuba completed the team line with 74.
Samuel Espinosa had the drop with 76.
Houk tied for second overall completing the event 10 under (206). Conroy tied for 16th at 1 over with Harris also in the top 20 with 2 over. Espinosa tallied 222 as Chuba came in with a total of 229.
The Crimson Tide claimed the 8-shot win over the Mocs with Memphis another five shots back in third. Virginia Tech's Kobe Valociek fired a final round 66 to come back and claim medalist honors by one over Houk and Kentucky's Alex Goff.
Chattanooga has two wins and two runners-up in four fall events.
"Really successful fall for our program," Coach
Blaine Woodruff shared on the way home from south Alabama. "Different parts of the country, different grasses, different types of courses and we had a chance to win going into the final round in every event. Obviously, we wish we would have come out on top in all four but finishing 1-1-2-2 and having two separate individual champions and having nine of our guys get playing time gets me excited for what's to come.
"Proud of how these guys compete and their desire to win. I wouldn't want to go to battle with any other group. Time to reset now, get caught up on school and get better this offseason. Looking forward to the spring!"
The Mocs are off until February. They return to the tee in Johns Island, S.C., Feb. 5-6 at the Battle at Briar's Creek.
