CHATTANOOGA---The 13th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs (7-2/6-1) are in their final Southern Conference game week of 2023. Coaches will always tell you each week, this is our biggest game of the year because it's the next one. This week, Rusty Wright isn't lying.
 
No. 2 Furman (7-1/5-0) comes to the Scenic City Saturday in what amounts to a SoCon Championship game. A win and Chattanooga clinches at least a share of the crown depending on what the Paladins do in their final two contests. A loss and Furman needs just one more win against either VMI or Wofford to claim the trophy outright.
 
The standings have the Paladins and Mocs in a virtual tie for first with percentage points favoring the visitors. Mercer is in third at 4-2 ahead of Western Carolina at 3-2. Those are the only four still in the race with Samford (4-3) and VMI (2-3) vying for top half hopes.

There's a lot going on at Finley Stadium. Senior Day, Band Day, ticket deals and most importantly, Military Appreciation & Salute to Heroes Day. All active and veteran military personnel receive a free general admission ticket to the game. That goes for first responders too.

Notes to Know…

• Chattanooga is No. 13 (tied) in the AFCA Coaches Top 25 & 14th per Stats Perform. Furman is second in both rankings.
• 165th ranked week (84-79-1), 27th under Wright (16-10). Huesman has the most ranked weeks (52) as a head coach ahead of Moore (44). Neither came close to Wright's 27 in first five seasons. Other coaches: Buddy Nix (19), Harold Wilkes (9), Oliver (8), Tom Arth (4) & Buddy Green (2).
• Six wins in SoCon play for the 5th time: 2013 (6-2, T1), 2014 (7-0, 1st), 2015 (6-1, T1) & 2016 (6-2, T2). A win Saturday would be just the second 7-win SoCon ledger.
