Makenzie Cooper led the Chattanooga Mocs into the top 3 at the Evie Odom Invitational with the low round of the season thus far.

VIRGINIA BEACH---The Chattanooga Mocs are in a good position after 18 holes for the Evie Odom Invitational. The Mocs 5-over 285 is third overall with 36 holes to go at Princess Anne C.C.
Coach Colette Murray was pleased with the solid start, but she knows there's more in the tank for this quintet. "Obviously happy to off to a good start, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated. We let so many shots get away from us. Thankfully, we have two more rounds to get it back and gain some ground."
Makenzie Cooper led the way with a 2-under 68. That's the low total of the season by a Moc, albeit in just four rounds. She did it in a spectacular flurry to end her first nine.
The Mocs started on the par 5 10th. Cooper bogeyed the opener and followed with two pars before the fireworks. She birdied four of the next six to turn at 3 under before finishing with the 68. That puts her in a tie for third, one shot behind leaders Noramoi Nuchsila (Kent State) and Michelle Cox (Penn State).
Kera Healey had an even-par 70 and is also in the top 20, tied for 13th overall. Giulia Foresta and Violeta Fernandez closed out the counting cards with 72 and 75, respectively. Carmen Belmonte was one back with 76.
UCF has the early lead at 7 under. That's 10 better than Kent State in second, just ahead of the Mocs. Indiana is fourth at 287, one better than Missouri in fifth.
Belmonte starts it off on No. 1 followed by Fernandez, Foresta, Healey and Cooper. Live scoring, including pairings when available, is linked above.
