ATHENS, Ohio---The Chattanooga Mocs split their matches Saturday at the Ohio duals. The host Bobcats completed a heavy comeback in the opener, 23-19, while the Mocs blitzed a talented DII program Ashland 32-9 in the second.

Freshman 125 Ty Tice stole the show with 12 points posting two second period falls to get the Mocs off to the best start possible. Blake Boarman followed with nine team points with a major in the opener and a tech fall in the second.

The front four - 125 (12), 133 (9), 141 (6) & 149 (8) scored 35 of Chattanooga's 51 points on the day. That came from six different wrestlers.

"I think we had some guys show exactly what we preach," Coach Kyle Ruschell reflected. "We talk about that fight and wrestling hard. That was really true in those lower weights with a big win for Noah over a ranked opponent.

"There were a lot of good things, but just some growing up to do as well."

The Mocs are 1-1. They return to action Dec. 2 against Kent State and Buffalo at Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. The first home match is Dec. 16 welcoming Little Rock and Queens to the Scenic City.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chattanooga jumped out to a 16-0 lead winning the first four bouts against Ohio. Ty Tice got it started with a second period pin followed by Blake Boarman's major dominance at 133. Eli Knight and Noah Castillo added decisions of their own with Castillo topping 19th-ranked Derek Raike. The Bobcats struck back.

Decisions at 157 and 165 went the hosts way. Austin Paradice fended off bonus points but couldn't complete the comeback against No. 18 Peyten Keller. Kamdyn Munro gave up late points to fall 4-3 to 23rd-ranked Garrett Thompson.

Sergio Desiante got his squad back on track with a hard-fought 8-7 decision over No. 30 Sal Perrine. The lead was 19-6, but the Bobcats closed with a tech fall and two falls for the final tally.

QUOTABLE
Coach Kyle Rushell on Ty Tice: "What he did today was outstanding. He pushed the pace and got in great posisitons. Really proud of him...just a coachable kid that makes adjustments, and he wrestled hard which made the difference."

Ty Tice on his first collegiate duals: "It feels really good to be competing with the team I spend so much time with. When you have so many people around you who believe in you, it's a lot easier to jump levels. Having coaches who continually install belief in you makes it a lot easier to compete at your highest level."
