CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team looks to build on back-to-back wins with a pair of non-conference matches this weekend as the team heads to North Alabama on Saturday before hosting Tennessee State on Sunday.
First serve in Florence, Ala., is set for 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday while Sunday's home match is set for 1 p.m. ET at the UTC Tennis Center on campus. The match aims to be the first outdoor dual of the season for the team.
Chattanooga (5-2) is coming off a huge weekend after downing UNC Asheville (5-2) and Georgia Southern (4-3) at home in a pair of thrillers. The Mocs have now won five of their last six matches after the season-opening defeat at SEC-member Alabama.
UTC and North Alabama (1-3) will meet for the first time since 2019 and the 14
th time in series history. The Mocs are 12-1 all-time against the Lions and have won the last three matchups including a 7-0 shutout in the last dual on February 1, 2019.
"We had a chance to see UNA at our Steve Baras Fall Invite that we hosted in October," said head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "This is a very much improved team, and they are competing well. We always need to be ready for a battle in road matches."
Chattanooga and Tennessee State (2-7) will meet for the first time in 25 years with the last matchup coming back in 1998. The Mocs hold a 4-0 all-time lead over the Tigers in the four meetings between 1984 and 1998.
"TSU may be the most improved team in the region. They have a really nice win over Jacksonville State already," added Merzbacher. "We're looking forward to competing outside on our home courts."
Live stats for both matches will be available and can be found on the schedule page. Match results will be posted to GoMocs.com following the conclusion of play each day.
