MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team dropped its first dual of the season after falling in a tight 4-3 contest at in-state foe Middle Tennessee on Friday afternoon in Murfreesboro.
 
Following the loss, Chattanooga falls to 3-1 on the young season. Middle Tennessee improves to 4-2 in the 2023 campaign.

"The team played as hard as they could today," said head coach Chad Camper. "MTSU played top-notch singles and we had plenty of chances, but just couldn't get four points. It was definitely a learning experience."
 
Chattanooga opened with a 1-0 lead after picking up a pair of victories in doubles action. Jessie Young and Caroline Gibbens rolled to a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles while Coco Bosman and Callie Billman earned a 7-5 decision at No. 3 to provide the clinching point.
 
Young gave UTC a 2-1 lead with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles ahead of a Middle Tennessee win at No. 4 which tied things 2-2. Lucia Garrigues-Melendez gave the Mocs a 3-2 lead with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 before the Blue Raiders captured wins at No. 3 and No. 6 to clinch the 4-3 match victory.
 
Chattanooga (3-1) returns to action next Friday, February 10 when it hosts EKU at 9 a.m. ET. The match is expected to be held at McCallie School's Strang-Voges Tennis Center. Full match preview and information will be available on GoMocs.com leading up to first serve.
