CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team gets set to welcome a pair of non-conference opponents this weekend when it hosts UNC Asheville and Georgia Southern on Friday and Sunday, respectively, at The McCallie School's Strang-Voges Tennis Center.
First serve on Friday against UNC Asheville is set for 6 p.m. ET while Sunday's action kicks off at 2 p.m. ET. Chattanooga (3-2) looks to respond from a weekend split in Nashville against Lipscomb (W, 5-2) and Belmont (L, 0-7).
"Our matches with UNCA have always been close. They are always competing for the Big South title," said head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "The guys are excited to play them at home."
The Mocs and Bulldogs (2-0) meet for just the fourth time in the series history with the previous three meetings all occurring since 2019. UTC is 2-1 in those three meetings and earned a tight 4-3 victory in the last matchup on March 7, 2021, in Asheville.
"Georgia Southern competes in the Sun Belt Conference which is one of the best tennis conferences in the country," said Merzbacher. "We will be challenged at every spot, in singles and in doubles."
Chattanooga and Georgia Southern, a former member of the Southern Conference, carry a rich history with the two teams evenly splitting 34 overall meetings 17-17. The Mocs and Eagles haven't met since 2018 which saw GSU claim a 7-0 sweep in Statesboro.
Both matches will feature live scoring with links located on GoMocs.com on the schedule page. Full match results and recaps will be available following conclusion of action each day.
