CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team is set to spend the spring break week in Charleston, S.C., for a pair of matches this week including its Southern Conference opener on Sunday morning.
 
Chattanooga (9-4, 0-0 SoCon) will take on College of Charleston in a non-conference matchup on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET before taking two days to regroup ahead of its SoCon opener at The Citadel on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. ET.
 
The Mocs are coming off a solid 6-0 blanking of Austin Peay last Saturday in Clarskville, Tenn., to pick up its second win in the last three matches. Sophomore Ryan Mudre is continuing his hot start to the 2023 campaign, winning five of his last six singles matchups and three-straight contests in doubles.
 
UTC and College of Charleston, a former member of the Southern Conference, will meet for the 28^th time in the all-time series and for the first time since 2019. The Cougars hold a 17-10 all-time record and have won eight of the last nine meetings.
 
"This should be a very good match for us as both teams are evenly balanced," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher. "It's our last match before we start conference play, so it's definitely an important match."
 
Chattanooga opens league play against The Citadel for the sixth-straight season with the previous five matchups ending in favor of the Mocs including three-straight 7-0 sweeps. UTC holds a 37-5 all-time record against the Bulldogs ahead of the 43^rd meeting between the two schools this weekend.
 
"Our opening SoCon match will come against a team that has improved significantly," added Merzbacher. "They compete well and will be ready for a competitive opening match in the SoCon."
