EATONTON, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team made its move Monday at the Linger Longer Invitational. The Mocs' 288 was one of just five at par or better scores in the 16-team field on a stingy Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee. It elevated the quintet to fifth in a stacked field at 8-over 584.
 
That level par tally was paced by Samuel Espinosa and Garrett Engle with 1-under 71s as Braedon Wear chipped in 72. John Houk closed the team score with 74, while Paul Conroy's 78 was the drop card. Chattanooga gained 167 strokes on its 15 competitors.

"I'm really proud of the guys today," Coach Blaine Woodruff said. "They played a great round of golf on a course that played very tough. At the same time, we know we left some shots out there as a group. We need to clean that up tomorrow.

"Excited to see what the final round holds for us."
 
Engle leads the team with a 3-under 141 through 36 holes. He's tied for sixth. Houk and Wear are six behind him, tied for 22nd. Espinosa is next with 150 as Conroy is a little behind with 156.
 
No. 20 Alabama is the leader at 570, one ahead of Georgia's 571. No. 1 Vanderbilt is another stroke back at 572. No. 11 Georgia Tech is at 577, seven clear of Chattanooga in fifth. The Mocs are two ahead of Clemson, nine in front of Arkansas with No. 16 Virginia 14 behind the Scenic City lads. The Tide's Nick Dunlap is the individual leader at 136.
 
The even-par 288 is the team's 12 par or better score. That's the most since the same number in 2018-19 in 10 extra rounds. The school record is 18 by the 2007-08 edition with this year's crew one shy of second (13) done in 2006-07, 2010-11 and 2016-17. Individually, Engle got his 10th of the campaign today. He's one of four in double digits trailing Espinosa (15), Houk (14) and Conroy (13).
 
The Mocs take the tee at 9:30 a.m., led by Conroy. They're paired with the Tigers, Hogs and Cavs. Scoring and pairings are linked above when available.
