ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
OPELIKA, Ala.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team wasn't too pleased with its start. Day two was OK, but the final 18 was what Coach Blaine Woodruff was looking for at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner. The Mocs turned in a 9-under 279 final card to end up in third with 855 (-9).
"We're proud of the guys for having the second-lowest round today," Coach Blaine Woodruff shared. "Really happy with the way we made a push up the leaderboard after the first round. We got solid weeks from Garrett, Paul and John.
"It's not the final result we wanted, but there are a lot of positive to carry forward and build upon. Really excited to get back in the lab and prepare for the Linger Longer."
Garrett Engle led the way tying his career low of 68. His 4 under was just one ahead of
Paul Conroy at 69.
Samuel Espinosa and
John Houk matched at 71 with
Braedon Wear posting the drop tally of 76.
Engle's impressive day got him a collegiate first, a top 10. He tied for 10th with a 5-under total of 211. Conroy completed his 54 holes in a tie for 13th at 212, while Houk was another stroke back in a tie for 15th as his three straight 71s registered a 3-under 213. Espinosa ended at 223 with Wear's total coming in at 226.
No. 7 Auburn was the runaway winner at 41 under. Runner-up Troy shot 854, just one stroke ahead of the Mocs in third. The Tigers' Carson Bacha was medalist shooting 11-under 205.
The final round 279 is the sixth time this season the Mocs finished below 280 on the scoreboard. It's their lowest score in 18 cards at the Tiger Invitational as was the 855 total by 24 strokes over 2018's 879.The Mocs are off until March 19-21. They head to the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Course in Eatonton, Ga.
