CHATTANOOGA — The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team suffered a 4-2 setback in its final home match of the season against UAB in non-conference action on a beautiful Monday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Center on campus.
 
Following the defeat, the Mocs wrap up its non-conference portion of the schedule and move to 15-6 overall this season. UAB improved to 16-5 after earning its sixth-straight victory.
 
"Although we didn't get the win today, we definitely got some real positives from this match," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher.
 
"Our doubles point was strong and as we moved some guys up, I thought they did great."
 
Chattanooga earned a 1-0 lead after doubles play following victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The duo of Simon Labbe and Peyton Gatti earned a 6-2 win at the top spot to kick things off before Kerim Hyatt and Kristof Kincses clinched the team point with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
 
The Mocs would up its lead to 2-0 after Kincses cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory at No. 6 singles. UAB would go on to earn wins at No. 5, No. 3, No. 1 and No. 2 to clinch the 4-2 victory while Ryan Mudre played a 6-2, 2-6, 2-0 unfinished match at No. 4.
 
"Kristof did such a great job coming in at No. 6 and getting that spot for us," added Merzbacher.
 
"All the focus now is on UNCG and the SoCon Tournament. I'm proud of these guys and how they have taken care of their business all season."
 
Chattanooga returns to action on Saturday, April 15, for a crucial Southern Conference finale on the road at UNCG. The Mocs can clinch at least a share of the regular season SoCon title for the first time in program history with a victory. First serve is set for 12 p.m. ET.
