SPARTANBURG, S.C.---Chattanooga Mocs junior John Houk did it again. He earned his second straight Southern Conference Golfer of the Week honor Wednesday afternoon. It's the fourth time this season a Moc has claimed the award.
 
Last week, Houk torched the Country Club of Spartanburg firing 17 under in winning his first DI title at the Wofford Intercollegiate. He had to do it a bit differently while leading Chattanooga to its fourth win of the season at the Hoosier Collegiate.
 
"You have to take your hat off to the way he's played," Coach Blaine Woodruff said. "John has started to find a really good balance between his fiery competitiveness and staying patient on the golf course, and it's really started to pay off for him the last few weeks.

"I'm very proud of how this group performed in two totally different settings. You had to score to win at Wofford, and we did. You had to be patient and take what came to you at Indiana, and we did. John was on top of our scorecard at the end of both tournaments so he's the best example of that, but I'm proud of this group as whole as much as I am excited for John's work and effort being rewarded."
 
Houk shot 1-over 214 for his 54 holes at the PFAU Course at IU. He beat the average score in the field by 17.26 shots while finishing in a tie for third. That included a 6-stroke win over No. 33 Drew Salyers of Indiana on his home course.
 
He is 163-2-1 over the 7-day stretch that saw the Mocs win at Wofford and Indiana. Five of his six cards over that span were signed at par or better averaging 68.33, playing at 16 under.
 
Houk and his teammates are off until April 23-25. That's when they tee it up at the Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee for the Southern Conference Championships. The Mocs are one of four teams in the field ranked among the top 62 teams in the country – (34) ETSU, (48) Chattanooga, (50) UNC Greensboro & (62) Furman.
