CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team tees off this week at the Wofford Intercollegiate. The 2-day, 54-hole event takes place at the Country Club of Spartanburg with 36 holes on Monday and a final 18 Tuesday.
 
The starting lineup remains the same. Garrett Engle leads the Mocs into the week along with Samuel Espinosa, Braedon Wear, John Houk and Paul Conroy. Nick Etherton is on the trip playing as an individual.
 
The Mocs are one of two top 100 teams in the field. The Scenic City squad is No. 49, it's top ranking in eight years, while South Florida is next at No. 84. It's been a steady rise in the Golfstat computer generated listing after ending 2022-23 at 135.

Keep an eye on…

• The No. 49 Golfstat ranking is the highest since No. 49 on Feb. 26, 2015. Seven Chattanooga squads completed the season in the top 50, all in consecutive seasons from 2007 through 2013. The 2014 squad just missed it at No. 56. There are two top 25 season finishes ending up 12th in 2008 and 25th in 2009.
• The Mocs have two teams wins this season capturing the Wolfpack Invitational and Furman Intercollegiate in back-to-back October starts. If they capture No. 3, it would the first time winning three times in a season since 2008-09: Scenic City Invite, Carpet Capital Collegiate & SoCon Championships. The school record is five in 2007-08.
• Engle is 10 under over his last six rounds with back-to-back 5-under finishes with a 70.33 scoring average. He has two straight top 10s tying for 10th at Auburn's Tiger Invitational and fourth at the Linger Longer Invite.
