BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--- The Chattanooga Mocs lead after 36 holes of the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational. The starting quintet's total of 584 at the PFAU Course at IU gives it a 7-stroke advantage over host Indiana and 11 better than Illinois State in third.
 
Paul Conroy paced the Mocs with 1-over 143 over the opening 36 holes. John Houk joins him near the top of the leaderboard tied for fourth with 144. The duo is within two shots of Murray States Jay Nimmo in the lead at level par, 142.
 
Samuel Espinosa and Garrett Engle are both in the top 15 as well. Espinosa is tied for 12th at 148, one ahead of Engle in a tie for 14th with 149. Braedon Wear shot 152 with Carson Johnson putting together 161 playing as an individual.
 
"The guys hung in there today," Coach Blaine Woodruff said. "This golf course is an excellent test. It really doesn't give you anything. I thought we did a good job staying patient, but we certainly need to clean some things up for tomorrow. We're proud of John and Paul putting themselves in contention to win individually."
 
The Mocs led by three after the early 18 shooting 293 with all five starters sitting in the top 25. Conroy was low man tied for the lead at 1-under 70. Espinosa and Engle were next, tied for 14th at 3 over. Houk and Wear added one shot, tied for 22nd with 75s.
 
Chattanooga extended its lead with the low round of the afternoon as well. The counters shaved two strokes off the early tally with IU two off that pace. Houk bounced back with the low round of the day firing a 2-under 69. Conroy turned in 73 while Espinosa and Engle added 74 and 75, respectively, to the counting card. Wear's 77 was the drop score.
 
The Mocs return to the tee at 10:10 a.m., leading off No. 1 partnered with the Hoosiers and Redbirds. Wear leads off followed in 10-minute increments by Engle, Espinosa, Houk and Conroy. Scoring and pairings are linked above along with a comprehensive results package.
