REGISTRATION
CHATTANOOGA---A Chattanooga tradition unlike any other opened registration recently. The 24th annual Porky's Open presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee is Tuesday, August 1 at Council Fire Golf Club.
The four-person select shot format is one of the best events on the Scenic City golf calendar. Players can sign up as a team or individually and be placed in available groups. The field is flighted according to the total handicap of the entire grouping, with flights determined by Club Pro.
"This ranks as one of my favorite days every year," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Mark Wharton shared. "Our community is so very supportive. This event is where many area golfers first learned about our programs and department. I'm also proud of how engaged our coaches, student-athletes and staff are in putting on such a major event.
"It's the impact on scholarship opportunities for our student-athletes that means the most."
The Porky's Open was created by late benefactor Frank "Porky" Kinser (1940-2020). Over the past 20+ years, it's a staple on the Chattanooga golf scene, and the Mocs are proud to carry on his legacy as it provides the community with a wonderful day of golf and fellowship. A portion of the proceeds goes directly to the Frank Kinser Porky's Open Endowed Scholarship which provides a continuous support stream to generations upon generations of Chattanooga Mocs.
Registering to play is not the only way to be involved. Sponsorships at a variety of levels from tee areas to greens to promotional items prominently featured for every participant along with materials to the general public available as well.
The event returns to the hallowed fairways at Council Fire Golf Club. The course is also home to the Chattanooga Classic, the women's program's annual Division I tournament, as well as the Choo Choo Invitational, a nationally recognized amateur event.
The Bob Cupp design was built in 1992. It has hosted PGA Tour, Senior Tour and NCAA Regionals along with numerous USGA and State Championships. It features 114 pristine acres of Bermuda surfaces that provides an enjoyable challenge to golfers of multiple skills and abilities.
Teams or individuals can sign up at the link above. Space is limited, so be sure to secure your teams right away. Meals will be provided to all participants and volunteers.
