GCAA Honors Men’s Golf as All-Academic Team

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is back in the news for all the right reasons. The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2023 team academic awards with the Mocs prominently mentioned.
Wednesday, the GCAA released the All-America Scholars list featuring seniors to be Paul Conroy and Samuel Espinosa. Today's honor is the All-Academic Team which is given to the programs that maintain a 3.0 or better GPA. The Mocs are one of 147 NCAA Division I programs to best the 3.0 mark and one of just three in the Southern Conference joined by UNC Greensboro and Furman.
"We celebrate the work of our men's golf program in the classroom," Vice-Chancellor for Athletics Mark Wharton declared. "It is a testament to the strong effort of our student-athletes as well as the fantastic support system from Coaches Blaine Woodruff and Nick Robinson to the continued excellence of our student support services."
The Mocs had quite the year on and off the course. The squad won four events with two individual titles (Conroy, John Houk). Their season ended as one of 30 teams to reach the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz. The group was the first in school history to complete a season under par (-44).
The squad boasted eight on the Dean's List in 2022-23: Alex Cobb, Paul Conroy, Garrett Engle, Samuel Espinosa, Nick Etherton, John Houk, Carson Johnson and Braedon Wear. That octet also claimed Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Cobb, Conroy, Engle, Espinosa, Etherton, Houk and Wear also earned spots on the SoCon Honor Roll.
