CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs are well into game week preparation for this week's matchup in Johnson City. The Mocs travel to face ETSU Saturday with a return to Southern Conference action.
Â
In fact, it's seven straight weeks ahead of SoCon play. The Mocs and 23rd-ranked Bucs are well acquainted over the years, but there's the recent history of what's dubbed the "Rail Rivalry" to add to it.
Â
Both are coming off impressive offensive performances in wins over the weekend. The Mocs claimed a 45-30 win over visiting Portland State, while the Bucs cruised past The Citadel 34-17. If the results of the last few years mean anything, defense will be the key in Greene Stadium.
Â
The last seven meetings had five hard-fought, low-scoring affairs:
2017:
W, 10-3
2018:
L, 14-17
2019:
W, 16-13
2021:
W, 21-16
2022:
W, 24-16
Â
The average winning score was just 17.6 points. It's been like for a long time. The last matchup where the teams combined for 60+ points in a non-blowout situation? The Mocs 43-26 win in Johnson City on Nov. 9, 1991. That's one of just two instances in 46 meetings with 60+ combined points.
Late afternoon, the Mocs got word that quarterback
Chase Artopoeus is this week's Tennessee Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. Artopoeus threw for 396 yards completing 24 of 32 passes with four touchdowns. It's the ninth most passing yards in school history. His 403 yards of total offense were the most by a Moc since Jacob Huesman accumulated 428 in the 2014 FCS Playoff Quarterfinals at New Hampshire.

Notes
- Artopoeus is 300 yards short of 4k for his Chattanooga career. If he reaches that number, he'd be the 10th Moc top the milestone. He's also 132 yards short of the top 10 passing list behind Antonio Miller's (2004-07) 3,832.
- Defensive front recorded multiple sacks in 36 of Wright's 56 games to date. Offensive front allowed one or fewer sacks 37 times over that span.
- Lead SoCon in pass yards per completion (15.76). That number is fourth nationally.
- Did not punt last Saturday. Last time a Mocs punter was that bored? Sept. 6, 2008 47-6 win over Cumberland.
- LB Alex Mitchell has 4.5 TFLs over last two games. Entered that stretch with 3.5 in prior 24.
Â
Flood Relief
The devastation of Hurricane Helene in northeast Tennessee has the two rivals teaming up this weekend. The counties of Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Johnson and Unicoi were among the hardest hit by the storm. The Bucs athletics department is taking donations in their Food City Fan Zone and at the entry gates this Saturday.
