ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs jumped out early and never looked back winning the Qubein Cup. It was a clean trophy sweep with Camden Braidech taking medalist honors at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

The Mocs earned a 7-stroke win over Texas A&M with a final round 291. That followed yesterday's 280 to open and 287 in the middle for an 858 total. Nebraska was a distant third with 871 which was one had of Michigan in fourth and six clear of Furman in fifth.

"It was just a true team effort this week," Coach Blaine Woodruff explained. "That first round, in those conditions, was unreal. We hit some rough patches, but the guys fought and competed. So happy for them to get this win.

"The last two events were tough, but our guys learned and grew instead of sitting around and pouting. Sometimes you have to spend some time in the valley before you can reach the peak. This one was earned."

Braidech's final round 70 (E) was just ahead of Braedon Wear's 72. Ethan Whitaker turned in 73 with Garrett Engle adding 76. Dalton Chuba had the drop tally of 79.

The winning total of 207 (-3) belonged to Braidech. Wear finished fifth at 214 with Engle next on the ledger with 222. Whitaker was one behind him at 223 as Chuba completed the week with 229. Nick Etherton shot 230 playing as an individual.

Braidech was pretty much the wire-to-wire winner opening play Monday with a birdie en route to a 4-under 66. He finished round two this morning with another birdie to take a 1-shot lead into the final round before settling for the 3-stroke triumph.

"So proud of Cam," Woodruff continued. "He's been a rock for us this year. He learned a lot from being in contention last week at Kentucky. We joked after he won that we didn't know he'd get to test out what he learned so soon, but he handled himself incredibly well. We couldn't be more thrilled for him to get his first college 'W'."

The Mocs are back in action in 11 days. They head south to Loxley, Ala., for the Steelwood Collegiate played Oct. 26-27.
