Blue Secures Game Two Win With Sac Fly

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs Blue Team secured a 4-3 win over Gold Thursday night at Frost Stadium to claim the 2024 Blue-Gold Series title with a bases loaded sac fly.
 
In the seventh inning with one out, Kailey Snell singled to second and Camryn Cernuto hit a hot shot to the short stop to put runners on first and second. Acelynn Sellers loaded the bases on a single to right and Shayna Glass was the hero for the second night with a sac fly to left field, scoring Snell to put the Mocs up 4-3 in the seventh inning.
 
Blue had nine hits on the night. Snell and Cernuto each went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Snell scored two runs, Cernuto one and Grace Hixson also scored one and went 1-for-2 on the night.
 
Alyssa Lavdis pitched all seven innings with nine strikeouts. She walked two, allowed five hits and three earned runs.
 
Blue came out of the gates on fire. Snell led off the game with a single 0 the middle and Cernuto drove her in on a triple to the fence in right for an RBI and then scored on the missed throw home.
 
Meghan Kernea got the second started with a walk for the Blue Team. Gold turned a double play, but Blue responded with a single from Grace Hixson. She scored from first on a double off the bat of Snell to center field.
 
Gold cut into that lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs. Abi Bunt led off the bottom of the second with a double to right center. With two outs, Emma Sam Reed drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Zoe Wright's single through the right side drove in Bunt and Reed advanced to third. Wright avoided the tag at second for the steal and Reed stole home to make it a 3-2 game.
 
The third inning saw the Gold knot it up. Abi Pikas came on to run for Baileigh Pitts who reached on a fielder's choice. She stole second and scored on a single off the bat of Jayce Purdy to right field.
 
Jayce Purdy was 2-for-3 for the Gold with an RBI. Abi Bunt was 1-for-2 with a run scored while Pitts and Wright each went 1-for-3. Riley Lamb went three innings and had a strikeout. Peja Goold came on in relief and struck out eight in four innings and did not give any free passes.
 
The series will conclude Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Frost Stadium. Admission is free.
