CHATTANOOGA---Tuesday is Press Conference Day for the Chattanooga Mocs each week during the football season. This week's visit with the local media horde included Coach Rusty Wright with seniors Chase Artopoeus and Kobe Joseph.

The 23rd-ranked Mocs returned to the top 25 with a 17-10 triumph at ETSU. Joseph and his defensive mates were key throttling the Bucs offense to the tune of…
  • 225 yards total offense: 225.2 below average
  • 117 rush yards: 137.2 below average
  • 108 pass yards: 88 below average
  • 10 points: 24.2 below average

While that unit deserves all the accolades, the offense did its job as well. It moved the ball throughout the day with touchdown drives of 82 and 75 yards. Artopoeus saved the best for last authoring his first career game-winning drive.

Starting at their own 25 with 6:33 to play, the Mocs ran 11 plays and took off all but 43 seconds on the clock when Reggie Davis scored from 1-yard out for the win. The drive converted two key third downs over the 5:50 span with Artopoeus going 3-4 for 47 yards.

That was then. Furman also had a dramatic road rivalry win claiming a hard-fought 17-16 decision at The Citadel. It sets up a key week for two teams with the usual aspirations of staying around the top of the Southern Conference standings.

Coach Wright began followed by Joseph and then Artopoeus.

Notes
  • Mocs are No. 23 in the latest Stats Perform Top 25 & receiving votes in AFCA Coaches poll.
  • WR Sam Phillips is this week's SoCon Offensive Player of the Week. He had five catches for 110 yards and a TD in the win at ETSU. It's his first such honor & first for a Moc in 2024.
  • QB Chase Artopoeus is second in the NATION in yards per completion (15.96).
  • Artopoeus is 19 passing yards shy of 4,000 for his career. Set to become the 10th Moc to exceed that total. If it happens this week, it's in game 16 for him. That would rank second fastest at UTC behind Chris Sanders '00 (13).
  • Defense had a season-high 4.0 sacks at ETSU: Taylor (1.5), Joseph Bakhole/Kobe Joseph (1.0) & Chris Victor (1.0).
