NOTES/QUOTES | PHOTOS

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (November 11, 2024) – Playing its third-straight true road game to start the season, the Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team struggled to find the bottom of the net during a tough 67-61 defeat at in-state foe Austin Peay on Monday night inside F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tenn.

Chattanooga falls to 0-3 for just the fifth time in its DI program era (since 1977-78) and the first time since the 2011-12 campaign. It's also the first time in the DI era that UTC opened a fresh season with three-straight true road games. Austin Peay improved to 3-0 on the year after the victory.

The Mocs welcomed back a pair of key contributors in senior guard Bash Wieland and redshirt freshman Collin Mulholland, who both missed the first two games of the season due to minor injuries. Wieland led the team with 19 points while Mulholland finished with five points, six rebounds, five assists and a blocked shot in 19 minutes of action.

After starting the game 5-of-10 from 3PT territory, Chattanooga went 0-of-19 from that point to finish with an inefficient 5-of-29 (17.2%) total. In total, the Mocs finished the game shooting 25-of-64 (39.1%) from the floor while surrendering a 43.8% (21-of-48) mark to APSU.

POSTGAME QUOTES | MORE
G Bash Wieland on returning after missing the first two games.
"Just to get back out there, I'm thankful for that. It was fun to compete again, obviously I wish we would have won, but it felt good to be back out there for sure. My teammates put me in a lot of good places, Trey [Bonham] and Honor [Huff] are some of the two best guards I've ever played with. Not only how they can shoot, but how they look for people on cuts."

HC Dan Earl on moving forward and competition level.
"There isn't a panic button whatsoever. I really like this team, and we will continue to get better. We are thoroughly disappointed we're 0-3 at this point, but we will continue to learn how to play together, tougher and the right way. I was really proud of him tonight. You look in the huddle, Bash, as a fifth-year senior, had a look in his eye that showed he wanted to take this game over. Some of it is just competing, offensively and defensively. I thought Bash did great at that. Another one is Garrison Keeslar who takes the game on. Some of our younger guys who haven't played a ton of minutes, have a little look that might be unsure. More minutes is more experience. We have to grow up quickly and keep the confidence high."
