CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs met with the local media today to discuss this week's trip to Clarksville, Tenn. The Mocs face Austin Peay on Saturday at 2 p.m., Eastern time on ESPN+.

Chattanooga is in a battle for a spot in the very place it was nearly a year-to-the-day ago when it beat the Govs 24-21 in the first round of the 2023 FCS Playoffs. A win Saturday has the program squarely on the bubble with a chance at a sixth appearance.

But that's looking ahead and not a sound plan when tackling a road game. Not that the Mocs need to be reminded of what it takes to win on the road, capturing eight of the last 10 FCS contests away from the aptly named Scenic City.

The Govs are just four points from this being an all-out playoff bubble … well, playoff. They've lost their last two matchups by one and three points. The latter came in overtime.

Wright opened today's press conference followed by offensive lineman Bryce Goodner and defensive back Jordan Walker.

Notes
  • Receiving votes in the latest Stats Perform Top 25 & AFCA Coaches polls.
  • A win marks the 27th 7-win season in school history. It would be the third straight. That would be just the fifth time for the program with three or more in a row: 7 (1977-83), 4 (2013-16) & 3 (1927-29 & 1940-42).
  • Takeaway margin in first three games? -1. +12 over last eight with 15 INTs & six FR.
  • The Mocs have 17 interceptions this season. There are 10 different defenders with an interception with five collecting multiple led by three apiece by corners D'Arco Perkins-McAllister & Jeremiah Batiste. The squad needs three more to become the sixth in school history with 20 or more and first since 1987.
  • WRs Javin Whatley (2,077) and Sam Phillips (2,075) are sixth and seventh all-time in receiving yards. They are both within 300 yards of the career record of 2,375 by Stefpon Hawkins (1996-99). Chris Domercant (2,067) also topped the 2K mark with 1,520 yards coming in his career at Stonehill. All three are juniors.
