Softball Hosts Frost Classic; Reed Chasing 1,200

Head Coach Frank Reed is one win away from 1,200 for his career.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga Mocs softball is hosting five teams this weekend in the annual Frost Classic at Frost Stadium. The classic begins Friday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon.
 
Head coach Frank Reed reached 1,199 wins Wednesday night with a 4-0 shutout at Jacksonville State. He reached 700 career wins in the NCAA last year and is currently standing at 723 as head coach of the Mocs. Prior to taking over the Mocs program in 2001, Reed won 476 games in 11 seasons at Chattanooga State Community College.
 
UTC is 7-4 overall and riding a six-game win streak that includes all five games last weekend at the Chattanooga Challenge.
 
The Mocs host Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the opening game Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. followed by a matchup against Georgetown at 5:30 p.m.
 
Saturday's schedule will move the Mocs up to the second and third games. UTC will face Valparaiso at 12:30 p.m. and Ohio at 3:00 p.m. The three-day classic wraps up Sunday afternoon with the Chattanooga facing UT Martin in the finale at 12:30 p.m.
 
The Mocs are hitting .290 through 11 games. Chattanooga has 83 hits including 12 doubles and eight home runs with 43 RBI. UTC has a team 5.32 ERA.
 
Acelynn Sellers leads the team with a .417 batting average followed by Kendall Forsythe (.409) who hit her first home run of the season against the Gamecocks Wednesday. Olivia Lipari (.355) and Kaili Phillips (.286) have three home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs each.
 
Taylor Long is 4-1 in the circle with a 3.61 ERA. Alyssa Lavdis picked up her first save this season, finishing out the final three innings at JSU.

TICKETS
Purchase tickets online at GoMocs.com or the Frost Stadium box office. Tournament tickets are $25 for all three days or $10 per day. Tickets are required to enter both fields.
