CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs track and field team opens the outdoor season Saturday at the Lee University Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn.
Â
"We have had a little break and have been getting some quality workouts since the end of our indoor season," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "Many of the kids will be racing down in events at this meet as we gradually incorporate them back into their true competitive distance. This early in the season the weather can be tricky but it looks like great weather for Saturday!"
Â
Ava McGue will get the meet started for the women with the high jump and long jump at Noon. At 1:00 p.m., Sarah Unterholzner will compete in the 100 meter hurdles and McGue will join her for the 400 meter hurdles at 3:00 p.m.
Â
Lexi Foley and Olivia Steele are slated for the 800 meter run at 3:35 p.m. and the 4x400 meter relay will run at 6:00 p.m. The four-person team is not yet finalized with Foley, McGue, Unterholzner, Steele and Kennedy Reynolds as possibilities for the relay.
Â
The final race of the day will have the most competitors for the Mocs. Chattanooga has Lola Baker, Leah Boyd, Michaela Dabney, Hannah Dearing, Andrea Ellis, Allie Potter, Reynolds, Brooke Tyll, Katherine Vradenburgh and Maddie Wheatcroft signed up to run the 1500 meter race at 6:40 p.m.
Â
The men will compete Saturday in two events. Jack Martin, Kaigen Mulkey and Eammon O'Bryant will get the meet started with the men's 5000 meter run at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. O'Bryant will run the men's 1500 meter with Tristan Gould, Riley Hanson and Caleb Jarrett at 6:15 p.m.
Â
"Caleb Morgan [director of Lee track and field] and his staff do a great job of putting on a very competitive early season meet," Meyer said. "It is just about 35 minutes away and an easy drive for fans to come and watch both the men and women run."
Â
The cost is $10 per person to attend with no admission cost for children under 12. Live stats are expected to be available for this event and a link will be posted to GoMocs.com when one becomes available.
