CHATTANOOGA --- Two Chattanooga women's basketball student-athletes received the honor of being named to the CSC Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon, as both Addie Grace Porter and Sigrun Olafsdottir earned the recognition after it was announced by the College Sports Communicators.
To receive a CSC Academic All-District distinction, student-athletes must possess a 3.4 cumulative GPA and either compete in 90 percent of their team's games or start in at least 66 percent of their team's games on the year.
Addie Grace Porter, who is wrapping up her junior season with the Mocs, started in all 33 of Chattanooga's games this season, ending the year averaging 5.0 points/game, 5.5 rebounds/game, 2.0 assists/game, 1.2 steals/game and 0.3 blocks/game. A multi-time member of UTC's Dean's List and AD's Honor Roll, alongside earning numerous Southern Conference academic honors, Porter is receiving her second consecutive CSC Academic All-District honor after getting the nod in 2023.
Porter currently holds a 3.80 GPA as she pursues her degree in Communication from Chattanooga.
Sigrun Olafsdottir is also receiving her second CSC Academic All-District designation of her career following a year where she raked in numerous on and off court honors for the Mocs. Like Porter, Olafsdottir started in all 33 games this season for UTC, posting averages of 5.7 points/game, 2.2 rebounds/game, 1.1 steals/game, 0.9 assists/game and 0.1 blocks/game. Known as one of the top defensive players in the entire SoCon, Olafsdottir received a spot on the 2024 SoCon All-Defensive Team, just narrowly being edged out for the conference's DPOY award.
Olafsdottir is set to earn her degree in SORT Management from Chattanooga later this spring and actively holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA. With her high GPA, Olafsdottir was also honored as the Southern Conference's Pinnacle Award winner, which is given out to the player on the SoCon Tournament winning team that has the highest GPA.
Behind the play of Porter and Olafsdottir, the 2023-24 Chattanooga women's basketball team wrapped up the year with a 28-5 record overall, including finishing 13-1 in Southern Conference action. The Mocs were able to claim the team's 23rd SoCon regular season title and 20th SoCon Tournament victory before ultimately punching the team's ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in program history.
The 2024 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field/court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic Al-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees for women's basketball will be announced on April 16, 2024.
50 SEASONS OF CHATTANOOGA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The 2023 season for the Chattanooga women's basketball team marks a major landmark for the program and the university, as UTC women's basketball officially celebrates its 50th season of competition as a university sponsored athletic program. Following the adoption of the Title IX legislation back in 1972, UTC added women's basketball, tennis and volleyball programs to its roster of athletic teams, bringing on five decades of history and success for each of the teams. Chattanooga WBB will be putting on multiple promotions and content pieces throughout the 2023-24 season to celebrate the program's history, culminating in the team hosting its 50th Season Celebration and Reunion during the Mocs' February 3 matchup against Furman at McKenzie Arena.
