Softball Hosts ETSU Friday, Saturday in SoCon Series

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga softball team returns to Frost Stadium for a seven-game home stand that begins Friday afternoon against East Tennessee State in Southern Conference action.
 
The Mocs are 21-8 overall and 3-0 in league play after sweeping Samford last weekend on the road. UTC leads the SoCon with a .308 batting average and Taylor Long has a conference-best 10 wins along with 91 strikeouts. ETSU is 5-19 overall and 0-3 against the SoCon.
 
UTC will host Austin Peay on Wednesday, April 3 and stay at Frost to welcome Wofford to the Southern Conference the following weekend.

TOP NOTES
• Chattanooga opened Southern Conference play with a sweep at Samford. The Mocs won the first game 3-1 on 3/23 and claimed a thrilling extra inning come-from-behind 5-4 victory in game two. The sweep was complete with an 8-3 win on Sunday.
• Kailey Snell scorched a hit down the left field line, into the corner. It popped out and she was waved home for an inside-the-park homerun, tying the game in the top of the seventh at Samford. UTC went on to win the game 5-4 in the ninth.
• Taylor Long was named the Southern Conference and Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) softball Pitcher of the Week. She struck out 21 in 13.2 innings of work with two wins and her first save of the season.
• Chattanooga leads the SoCon in batting average (.308), hit by pitch (27), on base percentage (.394), sac flies (10), sac hits (37), fielding percentage (.973), wins (21), shutouts (6), fewest hits (173) and lowest opponent batting average (.238).
• Kaili Phillips leads the SoCon in hit by pitch (9) and Camryn Cernuto has 10 sac bunts, the most in the league. Taylor Long has a SoCon-best 10 wins and 91 strikeouts, 30 looking. Long also has a SoCon-low .189 opponent batting average.
• Frank Reed has more than 1,200 wins in his 34-year career. He won 476 (11 years) at Chattanooga State and has 734 (23rd season) with the Mocs totalling 1210 career wins.
